I have had this TV for about six weeks and I am still amazed at the picture quality – simply fabulous. At first I was reluctant to make such an investment without actually seeing the equipment (as it is not yet in retail stores in my area); but after reading many reviews (on Amazon and elsewhere), I decided that there was little risk in buying this TV — I was right. Basic setup was quick and easy (plug it in and connect the HDMI to the cable box/DVR), though the TV has many features and it can take a while to get through all of them. I bought the Samsung Wireless LAN adapter along with the TV and it has been very useful in updating the firmware. The internet icons are interesting, though I’m not sure I will use them very much. Some reviews that I read criticized the sound; I don’t know why — the sound is typical of all current TVs. One can always add external home theater features to enhance the sound to suit one’s needs. To summarize, this is a great TV and worth every penny.

I purchased this product just before Thanksgiving and it was delivered in time to watch all of the football on turkey day. All I can say is that you have to see it to believe it. My wife and I are still amazed at the clarity and sharpness of the picture. We keep noticing our local news anchors facial imperfections, and can see details that I am sure we could not see on our previous television. The sound is good, but I also purchased a Samsung Blueray home theater in a box, and they work flawlessly together. I looked around and compared several televisions before purchasing this one, and I have not been disappointed. The delivery went very smoothly, the television was shipped and ready to be delivered within two days, I received a call the night before to set up a 2 hour delivery window. The delivery person and I carried it in, unboxed it and I made sure it worked before they left. It is a great television and a great purchasing experience. I was a little leary about purchasing something like this online, but Amazon made it very easy.

I bought this TV as an early Christmas present via amazon after the black Friday Walmart ad for a 9 50″ Samsung plasma came out (pn50b400). After doing some research, I ended up finding the pn50b430 on amazon for the same price (and it has an extra hdmi input compared to the 400). When browsing through the stores and reading reviews online, I was really leaning towards Samsung models due to their superior color and great image processing. I was also considering the Panasonic x1, but got to look at them side by side and mess around with some of the controls and… the Samsung has better color and much more vivid/bright display. Even when pumping up the brightness levels on the X1, it didn’t come close to the Samsung. I am a very value-conscious shopper, and am not going to lay down over a grand for a TV (just can’t bring myself to justify it)… and this TV made me very happy with my choice. I’ve been using it for a month now and… IT IS AWESOME! the standard definition satellite broadcasts look amazingly good on this TV! The video processing for standard def on this TV blows away the competition (especially when compared to lcd’s, which look blocky to me when playing standard def). The high definition satellite content looks great too… but not really any better than other flat panels. Regular DVD’s on an upscaling player are AMAZING. I’m not missing the 1080p at all… for me the 720p looks stellar. OK… now for the things I DON’T like. Because this is the cheap scaled-down model, there are no side facing input/outputs (arrghh) but I guess it’s a small compromise for 1/2 the price. The TV is very heavy and not very slim/sexy from the side view. Also, the reflections can become annoying depending on how you have it situated (and what is in the background). The bezel is glossy black and the screen is recessed about 1/2″, so when you have scrolling images, or bright items close to the edge of the screen, the bezel reflects these items, creating a weird effect. Also, the display size/aspect options change oddly, depending on the style of input (composite, component, hdmi, etc.), necessitating playing around with the options until you find one you like. One other thing… I am using 5.1 surround speakers intended for computer use (logitech x-530′s… which sound incredible by the way) until I can afford a nice home theater setup to compliment this tv, and the audio out stereo connector is not volume controlled; It lets you select “use external speakers” on the tv’s sound setup, but you have to use the speakers own volume adjusters, the tv wont change it’s output volume. All these annoyances aside, I am VERY pleased with my purchase. This TV is an INCREDIBLE value, and I would have no problems suggesting it to any other value-minded shopper who doesn’t mind the trade-offs to save hundreds to thousands of hard-earned dollars.

When it came time to replace the finally failing 27 yr old Sony in the bedroom,I looked of course back at Sony and others.After much research, I settled on Samsung,Panasonic, and Sony 32″ sets.Each time I viewed the sets, the Panasonic and Samsung were the two favs. Side by side, the Samsung blew the Panasonic off the shelf with better blacks( though I’m sure the Panny plasmas would have been better) and color accruracy.Other purchase pushers were the better jack pack on the Samsung, more attractive design(love the clear/red lower panel) and it swivels on the stand.The set up was super easy and the reward has been hours of great picture.

I’ve used this set for about 3 weeks now and done some really critical viewing with SD/HD cable as well as DVD playback. I have been very impressed with the picture quailty of the higher def sources and especially the 720 and 1080 pictures.Yeah I know it’s not really 1080 but watching NBC or CBS shows over the ABC(720) is an impressive difference.The picture simply pops with detail and color that is astounding. The DVD playback has also been a revelation and the blacks are I think rivaling the 36″ XBR Sony in the home theater.The depth of field is no doubt better. The STD def TV is fine and simply reminds one how much the source does matter.That would be why I just purchased a DVR to finally retire the VCR and then I can use the HDMI connections. The most obvious weakness of this set(along with most flat screens) has to be the weak sound quailty which I knew about and was OK for the bedroom( also connected it to a stereo for movies).

What I would change are a few ergonomic issues. The remote feels great but is neither backlit or programmable ,real pain in a darkened bedroom.Going to another source cannot be directly accessed with one button but only thru a menu.The same is true for the sleep timer, a multibutton trek thru a menu, again not dark bedroom friendly.Oddly, while I love the turn on/off tone(reminds me of my Apple booting up), I wish I could lower it’s volume so the set coming on doesn’t disturb the sleeping partner.

Overall, I am very very happy with this first non Sony TV in the house and will look forward to another Samsung if this gives equally great service.

Out of the box I had to assemble the stand and put batteries in the remote, just needed a cross tip screwdriver. It took the set a while to search out all the available cable channels, but it worked fine right from the start. It found a few channels I didn’t know were available. Picture is great and it adjusts for the signal automatically, whether standard analog or digital 480 or 720 or 1080i input signal. I hooked up a 1080i upconvert cd player by HDMI cable for the CD movies and it works good. All I had to do for using my pc was to connect the cable and select a screen resolution the TV supported. I thought the side speakers good, but I also have my stereo hooked up for when I play movies. My son’s Samsung has more features, but he paid more too. Got mine for 8.

I bought this samsung DLP tv refurbished from secondact.com for 799 plus shipping. First impressions were that the picture through my xbox was beautiful (switched from crappy old 36 in sdtv). I can actually read the words on my games now

The second day I realized that I had the problem that a lot of people had. The screen was bowed or pincussioned… not sure which one. If there’s a perfect horizontal line on the screen, when it gets to either the left or right edge it goes up, creating a kind of smile shaped effect. I was immediately beside myself as I had just spent quite a bit of money on this tv.

The tv has a 90 day warranty from samsung so I began by calling their customer support. I called and got through to an easy to understand American representative very quickly and explained my problem. Even though it’s refurbished all i had to do was fax in my receipt and tomorrow I will be calling to set up an appointment for a technician to come directly to my house to fix this problem. I will update this after the tech comes to see what happens but the customer support from samsung was amazing and I love that i don’t have to ship out my tv somewhere and not get it back for a month as other manufacturers might.

If that gets fixed perfectly the only thing wrong with this tv is the audio. If turned up to normal to high-normal listening range it has a definite buzz, which the technician may also fix when he gets here. This isn’t a huge deal to me because for the price i payed i wasn’t looking for great audio without getting outside speakers anyways.

If on a budget this is a great tv to get as i see it!
