Sharp Aquos LC32D43U 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV

Product by Sharp
Product model LC32D43U

I personally love this TV and the picture and sound that it gives. However I must state that the TV it was replacing probably should be in a museum. We have not as of yet upgraded to HD service and are still working on our usual cable service. love the picture which is a huge upgrade from what we had before. Personally the speakers are also great for me but again that is most likely because of where we started from before we got this TV. I love the fact that I am able to have both my DVD player and my Wii hooked up at the same time. The graphics when playing the Wii are great. The colours are crisp and bright. I would recommend that you change the colour settings to what you like as soon as you get it as it makes a huge difference. For the price I would say this was a great TV I am sure if you are worried about the specs etc then yes you could do better but you would also pay a lot more too.

Sharp LC32SH20U 32-Inch LCD HDTV with Integrated ATSC Tuner

Product by Sharp
Product model LC32SH20U

UPDATE: August 22, 2007–We now have DISH Sat Service and the HD Box and lots of HD Channels. This set is just wonderful. No problems after one year of ownership. The picture is very clear on all channels, HD or regular. And, this TV should last for years! When I do buy another HD TV, I will get a LARGER one about 48″ and maybe plasma. However, the LCD is just fine.

First, let me share my experience. I wanted an HDTV, and FLAT panel LCD, not a plasma TV. However, I knew little or nothing about the LCD HD’s. After thinking about buying one for months and looking at them in the stores, I asked the salesman which was the most simple one to set up and use. He suggested the Sharp. Since I liked the picture, I bought the Sharp. First, I had this connected to CABLE and a special HD box and I did not like the reception on the cable hookup. Then, I switched to satelite service, and quit my cable company. What a differnce in the picture, night and day difference, now I am in love with this TV! This picture is STUNNING and SUPERB. I see clarity and colors I never saw in my old analog JVC (and this was the best TV I ever owned until now). The picture quality and colors on this TV are breathtaking. I really enjoy the set and I love watching my DVD movies, HD tv shows and even local shows on it. Just to let you know, it does take time to get used to the picture and color vividness on the HDTV, but as you watch it more, you will not want to go back to the old tube type analog TV. The most important thing I learned is for a fuller screen is to put this on the ZOOM view. This way you do not lose so much picture. The Sharp book has been alot of help and also I went to Google and looked up all I can now about HDTV and am learning as I go. All in all, my eyes are happy now when I am viewing this TV! Sharp is a great TV!
UPDATE: Monday, July 23, 2007 – The TV now rates 5 stars now for 2 reasons:
1) I have the DISH HD Receiver Box and have many HD Stations now, which look wonderful on this TV. (The older Cable service I have only had a few HD TV shows on it, the Dish has many more HD Stations and the colors are out of this world now).
2) I have read the book cover to cover and know this TV well. After all these months, I love this TV more and more and more…

It also offers a 170-degree viewing angle so everyone in the room can enjoy the picture, a 12 ms (millisecond) response time (which helps fast moving video not appear jaggy), and an 800:1 contrast ratio. (The higher the contrast ratio, the greater a TV’s ability to display subtle color details and not get washed out by ambient room light.)

It has two bottom-mounted stereo speakers that produce 10 watts of total audio power (5 watts per channel). Other connection options include:

  • Composite AV (RCA): 2 in
  • S-Video: 1 in
  • Component Video: 1 in

  • RF: 1 in
  • Total analog audio in: 4
  • Analog audio out: 1
  • Digital optical: 1 out

Tech Talk
HDMI is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link any audio/video source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or AV receiver) with your TV–all over a single cable. HDMI supports standard, enhanced or high definition video, plus multi-channel digital audio on a single cable. It supports all ATSC formats–standard (SDTV), enhanced (EDTV), and high (HDTV).

Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. You will need a separate RCA left/right audio cable for sound.

What’s in the Box
LCD TV, remote control (with batteries), stand, AC cord, printed operating instructions

Sharp LC46E77U 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Black

Product by Sharp
Product model LC-46E77U

I actually own the sister version of this product (the Sharp LC-52E77U), but the information in this review is equally applicable to this TV since they use the same, albeit smaller, panel.

Since I have owned this TV for a few months now, I thought it would be helpful to share a few tips and tricks I have learned:

PROBLEM: INCOMPATIBLE AUDIO SIGNAL

All my A/V devices (360, PS3, Wii, Samsung DTB-H260F) were connected to my Onkyo TX-SR607 receiver with HDMI, which was set to output to my Sharp Aquos LC-52E77U. And, although the receiver was set to “Audio TV Out” off (and even with it on), the TV kept popping up this error:

“Incompatible audio signal has been received, please check the output signal.”

It only pops up for a few seconds, and only when I would switch devices or resolution or whatever. Still, pretty annoying. Connecting the devices directly to the TV via HDMI caused the same error – the only time it didn’t happen is when there was 2ch 44.1/48Khz PCM involved.

Unfortunately, unlike every other TV I have ever owned, the Sharp doesn’t have a menu option to disable audio. Muting didn’t help, either.

The solution? Set the audio volume to 0. No more error!

PROBLEM: NO DEVICE DETECTED (DVI -> HDMI)

When I first got this TV, I plugged in my Mac Mini, using a DVI -> HDMI cable. After using it for a bit, the TV would stop recognizing that the Mac Mini was connected. It turns out that, whenever the Mac Mini would be rebooted or would go to sleep, the Sharp would refuse to recognize that it was connected anymore.

The solution? Physically unplugging and plugging in the TV (not just pressing the power button), and disabling sleep on the Mac. I still have to do this unplugging dance occasionally – like for system updates – but not as often as when sleep was enabled. I guess that’s the price you pay for a beautiful 1080p HDMI signal, as opposed to a letterboxed 1600×1200 VGA signal – the max this TV supports.

CALIBRATION SETTINGS

This TV has some definite problems with blues in areas of high contrast. Here are the best settings I have found, in order of their appearance in the menus:

OPC: Off
Backlight: +6 (you can adjust up or down a smidge if need be)
Contrast: +36
Brightness: -6
Color: +1
Tint: +1
Sharpness: -1

CMS Hue/Saturation/Value: 0
Color Temp.: Low (leave at Mid for color managed devices like Macs, or OTA TV)
R Gain: +11
G Gain: 0
B Gain: -10
Fine Motion Enhanced: Off (leave on for sports if you prefer)
Active Contrast: Off
Gamma Adjustment: 0
Film Mode: Off (I used Advanced(Low) for sports)
Digital Noise Reduction: Off
Monochrome: Off
Range of OPC: +16 Max, -16 Min (it is off, anyways)

Sharp Aquos LC52D65U 52-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

Product by Sharp
Product model LC52D65U

After returning a defective Samsung LN-52A550, I decided to give this a try. Bhoy I made the right decision! Ignore any contrast ratio rating by so called experts. This is the one to own. Aquos picture is the best in the business. Clarity of pictures is so amazing. So crisp on HDTV, that we can’t help on watching more blu-ray on it. I also use this as an awesome monitor while I type this review. Never again will I stray on another Korean brand like Samsung. Their quality and customer service is pathetic. I was also considering the SONY KDL-52V4100. Picture is not close to this Aquos. You have to get their XBR series to land a crisp picture compared to this Aquos.

Pros: 5Hdmi, 4ms response time . Slimmest of the bunch,3.0 Energy Certified. Amazing picture with correct setting, great design, Japanese quality, exceptional customer serice. This is Acura, Lexus of televisions

Product model LC19D45U

This is a great TV for close up viewing. Fits in our kitchen area just right. Dose’nt have the best backlite so some channel programs don’t show up very good but the sharpness and color are great. If the backlite were better, I’d say you could’nt buy a better 19″ TV. I also have a 26″ Sharp so I can compare. The Sharp Aquos is with out a doubt of better quality, no way you could call it junkie. The extra remote is nice but we dont use it very much. Sound is good and there are more then enough inputs. The manual makes setup and operation of the TV easy. Ordering from Amazon was easy and shipping was quick. The price was right so I would give this TV 5 stars except for the backlite.

Sharp Aquos LC46D92U 46″ LCD Flat Panel HDTV

Product by Sharp
Product model LC46D92U

I spent 8 months reading and waiting and watching the 3 bext LCD tvs in the 46″ arena. And it was SOOO worth the wait!
I weighed the LCD TVs in the areas of HDMI connections, contrast ratio, response time, refresh rate, and a few more -but most importantly watched the price every week from August ’07 to March ’08!
The top three brands were Sharp, Toshiba, and Sony using only the top of their lines in the 46″ arena -and watched and waited as all three prices dropped significantly after early Feb (Super Bowl) and saved my self over ,000!
Will update this review after 2 months of using the new TV.
So far:
No banding problems
Great picture after calibrating
Very poor speaker system but adequate if temporary
Easy to assemble stand and speakers
Aboslutely NO glare at all
Great viewing angles
Easy to hook up: DVD, Cable box, Game system

Sharp Aquos LC52D43U 52-Inch 720p LCD HDTV

Product by Sharp
Product model LC52D43U

I have had this tv for about a year now. I’m very happy with it. When I was contemplating which tv I would buy, I had to figure out if I wanted 720p or 1080p, or if I wanted a plasma or LCD. I decided to go with an LCD because I didn’t want my tv watching or video game playing to be hindered by the thought of burn in or image retention. Although it really isn’t that big of an issue, especially nowadays, I figured that a small drop in picture quality would make up for me not worrying about it.

Anyway, I really didn’t have an idea of what TV I wanted, but I wanted it to be cheap and big, and that pretty much ruled out 1080p. Also, the fact that at this size, if you are sitting back 10 feet or so, you won’t even be able to notice the difference between 720 and 1080.

Anyway, I ended up seeing a really good deal on this last year, and although I couldn’t find much info on the set online, anything I could find was favorable. I bought the tv and I am very happy with my purchase.

The image quality is great (for HD and Blu ray). One thing that is necessary though is to sit far enough away. If you are sitting within 7 feet, the picture can get pixelated, but if you are more than 10 feet away, it looks great. The colors seem to be pretty accurate, and the black levels seem good for an lcd.

Standard definition is pretty good as well, but there is a serious quality difference when you flip between hd and standard channel (which is to be expected). Also it takes maybe 2 seconds to switch between a standard channel to an hd channel. This is because it has to switch to 480i to 720p. Not too big a deal, but it is worth a mention.

One con I can think of is the sound quality. The speakers on the tv don’t get that loud, and it can sometimes be hard to hear dialogue on a dvd or blu ray if there is a fan going or if there is any background noise at all. The volume goes from 0 to 60, but it seems as though the sound doesn’t increase much at all between 30 and 60. This was only a problem with dvd’s and blu rays playing from my ps3 though, because when I was watching digital cable it was always loud enough. I ended up solving this problem by just getting a sony surround sound system though.

Also, this only has 2 hdmi ports. This isn’t really too big of an issue because hdmi splitters can be bought for cheap, if you ever even need an extra hdmi port.

Overall I would say that my experience with this tv has been great. There are definitely tv’s with better picture, but if you can get this tv for around 1,000 I would say it would be a steal. As long as you give yourself 10-12 feet of viewing distance (which really you should do with any tv this size), this tv looks great. Honestly, unless you are willing to pay hundreds more for a slight increase in picture quality, you should check this out.
