Sharp Aquos LC32GP1U 32-Inch 1080p LCD Gaming HDTV

Product by Sharp
Product model LC32GP1U

We did not buy this Sharp Aquos because it is a gaming TV, but because we saw it next to TVs in the same price range at one of the electronics chains, and the Sharp picture blew the others away. Even though we knew we would save almost 0 buying the TV online, we were a little nervous about buying from TigerDirect through Amazon. We took the plunge, though, and the TV arrived in a matter of days in perfect condition. The set-up with our HD DVR was a little difficult, and calls to Time Warner weren’t much help when the support person insisted the 480i showing on the DVR was the DVR model number. We finally went to Time Warner’s Web site and found the information we needed to get the set up to maximum resolution. We have had the TV a couple of months now and are very happy with it. A word to the wise — if your order with Amazon “suggests” you purchase a Bargaincell HDMI cable for an extra .98, pass on it. We ordered the cable, and the audio was nonfunctional.

Sharp LC32DV22U 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV with Built In DVD Player

Product by Sharp
Product model LC32DV22U

I purchased and installed this model a few days ago. I also purchased a wall bracket from Amazon and hung it on the wall within a 1/2 hour. This Sharp picture is great, DVD works quite simply by sticking a DVD in the side slot, but the sound out of the built in speakers could be better.

We have this in a small bedroom where the sound level will be adequate but even at max volume I found it not to be as loud as one might expect (perhaps it is just this one unit?). The quality of the speakers is also not up to par – but good enough. I expect most people who are purchasing this type of LCD with a built in DVD are doing what I’m doing; putting it somewhere like a small room where there is no other equipment like an A/V receiver and surround sound system. So the expectation is for good quality sound and sufficient volume. I have some external, self powered, speakers I could use but that would defeat the compact setup I desired.

All that said though it is adequate and I would still recommend this TV/DVD combination. The price was right, the TV isn’t too heavy to handle when mounting it, and the remote is reasonably designed. I had the stand installed for a couple of days and it was quite stable although offers no tilt. I like the idea that it has HDMI, composite, component, and PC inputs so I can expand its use if I wish.

Sharp LC52SB55U 52-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

Product by Sharp
Product model LC52SB55U

After contemplating the decision to replace my 32″ HD Toshiba tube TV for over a year, this Sharp TV went on-sale for Black Friday and I couldn’t pass up the bargain.

I had and have done a TON of research on LCD TVs and I would always end up not buying one due to the prevalence of the “next year’s model will be even better” mentality that the manufacturers continue to push.

Well, I can tell you that while this TV may not be some top-of-the-line Sony or Pioneer, the picture is quite frankly fantastic.

I truly believe that we have entered the realm that audio equipment exist in within the TV product space, there’s plenty of ultra high-end audio gear out there that costs 10 times as much as the consumer stuff, but most people don’t care to may such a premium for little additional value.

So, my point is that while this TV doesn’t have the fastest refresh time, best contrast ratio, or 120Hz technology that competing TVs have I have yet to be anything but impressed with the performance. I will also say that since the cable and satellite companies compress the heck out of their signals the TV will not be the deciding factor for quality of the picture most of the time.

I did also purchase a Blu-ray player to use with the TV. As of this writing I have not played Blu-ray disc, but I have played many regular DVDs which are up-converted to 1080p with great results.

What I like about this TV is that each input can be tuned independently for all picture settings(I used the THX tuner for my Blu-ray input), and there are a TON of settings. The dynamic backlighting works perfectly and when it adjusts it will show you the adjustment via a series of leaf icons; this tells you how bright the backlight is being set to.
Also, being able to custom name all of the inputs as well as skip the ones that aren’t connected is great.

Audio-wise, the sound is fine. I use a 5.1 surround system for all DVD/Blu-ray movies and when we are watching a movie on cable, but for standard programming the sound is fine. It probably can use more bass, but where the heck are you going to fit a cone and magnet in this thing?

Finally, the dimensions of the TV are listed somewhat incorrectly as the set is only maybe 6 inches deep, but the stand is 12 inches in depth. I was also surprised at how light the panel itself is – I’ve hung plasmas that were only 42″ and they weighed a ton… this set is very light from a weight perspective.

Ultimately, I couldn’t be happier with this TV and with the 0 or more dollars I saved compared to similar sets I was able to buy a great Blu-ray player and cables plus still have cash left over.

Sharp LC19SB25U 19-Inch 720p LCD HDTV Review

Since I just recently purchased my first game console in over 9 years, I knew I would need a TV to hook it up to. I found this set at a local brick’n'mortar retailer, and I was impressed. For the price, this thing is jam-packed with features. 720p HD, inputs for co-axial TV, composite with optional S-video, component RGB, HDMI, and a VGA connector that can take analog video from a computer.

The display is lovely, and the 16:9 aspect ratio is perfect on my game console. Though the display is only 19″, and the built-in stereo speakers aren’t too powerful, neither of these issues is a drawback for me. I use this thing in a bedroom, and I’m never more than six feet away from it. Its display size and volume are perfect for so small a space.

What I love best about this TV is that, with its VGA computer-video input, I can switch between using this as a display for my game console and using it as a secondary widescreen monitor for my PC. The display quality somewhat poor by PC standards, but it’s plenty good enough for text-based applications like chat programs.

I am very happy with this purchase. I highly recommend this TV for anyone who needs a game console display for one or two people in a small room.

Sharp LC C3234U – 32″ Aquos LCD TV – widescreen – 720p – HDTV – black Review

I’ve had my Sharp Aquos LC-C3234U for over 18 months and it has served as an excellent HDTV. We have it mounted on the wall in our kitchen and attached to a DirecTV high def DVR. The picture quality is quite good for a bright room such as a kitchen. The unit has performed flawlessly during the entire 18 months and I hope to get many more years of service out of it.

I cannot comment on the audio quality because I’ve always used an externally powered 2.1 speaker setup. I assume the speakers are competent but not stellar which is why I’ve never tried them.

Sharp LC-26GA4U 26-Inch AQUOS HDTV-Ready LCD Flat-Panel TV Review

The picture is amazing we use this as a bedroom tv/ computer monitor. Analog tv is displayed well in wide mode. I have a Panasonic plasma also and it tends to make people look short and fat with both comcast digital and analog reception in wide mode display, the sharp doesn’t do this as much. There seems to be some quality issues, my power supply failed after 5 weeks. The replacement supply is fine so far.

Sharp LC-26GA4U 26-Inch AQUOS HDTV-Ready LCD Flat-Panel TV Feature

  • Sharp TFT Advanced Super View widescreen LCD TV with WXGA 1,366 x 768 resolution; 33.4 x 16 x 3.7 inches (W x H x D) without stand
  • High-definition compatibility up to 720p video resolution; 2 digital-video inputs (1 DVI-I, 1 HDMI), 2 HD component-video inputs
  • High 800:1 contrast radio, ultra-fast response time (less than 16 ms)
  • Wide viewing angles (170 degrees horizontal/vertical) and high brightness (450 cd/m2) allow placement near windows
  • Detachable speakers and table stand, 10 watts per channel x 2 stereo sound

Sharp LC-26GA4U 26-Inch AQUOS HDTV-Ready LCD Flat-Panel TV Overview

Revitalize your home entertainment with a flat-screen jolt of style and quality in the form of Sharp’s Advanced Super View LC-26GA4U. The 26-inch, HDTV- and PC-compatible LCD television–a member of Sharp’s stylish AQUOS line–offers a widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio to match your favorite movies, and high-definition video resolution up to 720p (progressive-scan) when connected to a DTV set-top box/receiver (not included).

The 1,366 x 768-resolution LC-26GA4U includes 2 detachable, high-aperture aluminum speakers powered by 10 watts per channel. At less than 4 inches deep, the set is perfect for either table or wall positioning. A handy PC Card slot lets you view still images and video you’ve recorded on a PC Card, and Sharp’s proprietary Quick Shoot video circuit ensures a lightning-quick response time of less than 16 ms for smooth-as-silk video and gaming graphics.

LCD screens offer a number of benefits over CRT monitors and televisions, including general ease of use, freedom from eye strain (no screen flickering or radiation emissions), quiet operation (no high-pitch “flyback” noise, an issue with CRT TVs), accurate image geometry (no curvature distortion or susceptibility to magnetic interference from, say, speakers), long screen life (no risk of image burn-in), space savings, and light weight/easy positioning. They also tend to be cheaper and, to some eyes, slightly more natural looking than their plasma flat-panel counterparts, which usually “spec” higher (higher brightness, higher contrast ratio).

The LC-26GA4U’s Advanced Super View/black TFT (thin-film-transistor) screen offers exceptionally wide (170- by 170-degree) viewing angles and an extraordinary contrast ratio of 800:1 for super-black blacks. Its high brightness (450 cd/m2) ensures wide dynamic range for vivid colors, great depth, and realism. You can place it anywhere–near windows, doors, or other light sources–and its picture will remain vivid. And, with its 60,000-hour lamp life, the backlight life is long enough to give you viewing pleasure for many years. A built-in 181-channel, drift-free PLL synthesized tuner lets you plug your TV antenna or cable box right into the LC-26GA4U and start watching.

Connections consist of 2 high-definition component-video inputs, 1 DVI-I (Digital Visual Interface-Integrated) input, 1 HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) input, 3 composite-video inputs, and 1 S-video input. An audio/video output (composite- and S-video with stereo analog audio) facilitates hookup with a surround receiver, DVR, VCR, or other destination.

DVI-I is a direct-digital DVI terminal capable of transmitting both analog and digital video data. HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is a lossless, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface to link any audio/video source (such as a set-top box, DVD player, or AV receiver) with your TV or monitor. HDMI supports standard-definition (SD), enhanced definition (ED), or high-definition (HD) video, plus multi-channel digital audio–all using a single cable. It transmits all ATSC HDTV standards and supports up to 8-channel digital audio, with bandwidth to spare to accommodate future enhancements and requirements.
