Toshiba REGZA 42ZV650U 42-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV with ClearScan 240, Black

Product by Toshiba
Product model 42ZV650U

The Good: I bought this TV set after much research and viewing every set I could online and at the stores. This set beat out Samsung and Sony models in its class, and was hundreds less. This set has great audio speakers that adjust to loud volumes such as commercials. Black levels are great. Colors pop. Skin tones are spot on. This set is more “tweakable” than others. You can elect to have antiblurring without dejudder. I looked side by side at several stores to compare this model and it is superior to Sony and Samsung pq. Bigger is better. I don’t have room for a 46 inch and this 42 inch beats out the 40 inch sets.

The Bad: I was unlucky and my set had two dead pixels right out of the box. After two months, I got a second set, exact same model. The second set had audio lip syncing problems on one channel and buzzing sounds once a day. The dead pixel set had no audio problems. I ended up keeping the dead pixel set. The fine print under the Toshiba warranty says if you get one dead pixel or 100 dead pixels, it is not covered under the warranty. I can’t see my dead pixels unless there is a white background and I look for them. This set is perfect in many ways, except not pixel perfect.

It was a bad experience to start out with, to have two sets, the same model with problems.

REGZA LCD TV with ClearScan 240 creates such a new level of picture clarity with motion video that you won’t know whether to stay glued to your seat, or to jump from it. You may watch TV at night in a dark room, but sometimes you may keep the lights on and have a bright room, or watch the game on Sunday afternoon with even brighter sunlight coming through the windows. Extra room light can lower the contrast on some TVs, but with CrystalCoat, you don’t have to worry. CrystalCoat stops ambient room light reflections from washing out the picture, creating 30%+ better contrast in bright rooms. Now you can enjoy the deep high contrast REGZA picture in all room light conditions. If you have ever been bothered by loud TV commercials or inconsistent volume when changing channels, Dolby Volume technology is the solution. Advanced algorithms monitor the audio during programs, when commercials start, and when changing channels. Louder programming is brought down, while lower programming is brought up. This ensures a consistent volume level with full dynamic range at all times. You can now watch your movies or videos, view your digital pictures, or even listen to your digital music, by just connecting a USB hard drive or flash drive to the USB Port on the TV. If your digital camera uses an SD memory

Toshiba 26AV502R 26-Inch 720p LCD HDTV

Product by Toshiba
Product model 26AV502R

I’m not a big spender and so I was very happy to see that the Toshiba 26AV502R 26-Inch 720p LCD HDTV was being sold for under 0. I bought it refurbished and it seems to be in perfect working order (no dead pixels) and I couldn’t ask for any more quality for the price. The TV has enough inputs (2 HDMI, 2 components, PC, s-video, analog) and works well with my setup. The volume isn’t a problem, but I prefer it hooked up to my stereo. The picture does look like it leans slightly towards the red spectrum, but for the price, you can’t beat it. This is a small detail and colors can be adjusted through the menu. I have a Xbox hooked up through HDMI (at one point, through components) and the picture comes in great with no lag at all. The PC input is great and I was finally able to project to my TV even though my graphics card doesn’t not have a TV out feature. Since this is a monitor, it was able to project up to the 720p quality of my computer. Hulu never looked better. Overall, I would definitely recommend it to the bargain HDTV buyer. If you have more cash, of course, spend it on a Samsung or a Sony.

Toshiba REGZA 46XV645U 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Black

Product by Toshiba
Product model 46XV645U

I had been looking at and researching HDTVs for a while and had pretty much decided on going with a plasma, due to the better viewing angle and deeper blacks. I was a bit hesitant, though, about picking up a plasma because of all the “burn-in” horror stories that have piled up over the years, so I was still hoping to find an LCD display that would blow me away while still being affordable. When I came across this Toshiba, it appeared that this would be that LCD. I made several trips to the big box whose logo looks like a big yellow tag and spent close to an hour each time comparing a few different models as best as one can in the controlled lighting of the retail environment. I was impressed with the black level, overall contrast, and picture quality of this tv. The image also appeared to be cleaner than others, with very few jaggies or digital artifacts.

I ended up purchasing this tv (great deal with the free 19″) and taking it home. The screen size is plenty large enough to see clearly from 10 ft away, but not too bulky to carry inside, unpack and set up by myself . It looks great and feels sturdy. The light-up Toshiba logo is a pretty nice touch, but I set it to off since it’s a little distracting. There are a TON of picture adjustments available through a few standard and advanced menu options. A lot of these options are probably only available on most other sets through service menus, which are meant to be navigated by professional calibrating services. I spent the first five hours of Saturday and a few more on Sunday tweaking the picture while watching blu-rays, with my main attention on getting a good, dark black level and accurate skin tones. I got the settings dialed in to what pleases my eye and thought it looked darn good (maybe not a professional calibration, but I was very pleased with it). The sound was not as bad as I’ve read in some reviews. I never experienced the crackling that others have, but I also never needed to turn the volume up past 30, even sitting 10 ft away. So far, everything was great but naturally, with the good, you get the bad.

The drawbacks that I experienced were more personal annoyances, I suppose, but I’ve read that they are inherent to LCDs (to varying degrees), and I still could not ignore them after I discovered them. The first of which is the limited viewing angle. After the hours of tweaking, the set looks incredible when viewed head on. This changed, though, when I stood up or watched as I walked around the room. The black areas turn bluish and the overall picture loses its pop. This was the case if I viewed from any other angle than sitting on the couch directly in front of it. Granted, that’s where I plan on watching tv from, but if I wanted to watch from the kitchen or have guests over, it wouldn’t be as enjoyable. I was kinda disappointed because I had not experienced this in the store. It’s not horrible, just something I didn’t like. Also, it may have been exaggerated by how good the picture looks head on. The off angle picture may be as good as last year’s model, but by improving the head on picture, it doesn’t look as good from the sides. Who knows. I’m also coming from decades of watching CRTs where the viewing angle does not change. I knew to watch out for this with LCDs, but I guess you just can’t get away from it unless you spend a few grand on one.

My other gripe was with the uneven backlight, or cloudiness, in dark areas, especially along the top and coming from the top corners (“flashlight” effect). Before purchasing this tv, I had found only one account of this occurring with this Toshiba. I had actually forgotten about it and wasn’t looking for it when I noticed it myself. I didn’t notice it until nighttime when I had the lights dimmed and the screen was supposed to be black. It’s more apparent while performing non-viewing actions, such as switching inputs, changing channels, etc., but it is noticeable at certain times while watching movies. I didn’t notice this during the day but, again, just something I didn’t like. It’s also possible I received a faulty display.

All in all, this is a great LCD for the price. I couldn’t find one in-store in the same price point that came close. Great picture, super sharp, and lots and lots of picture tweaking options. I didn’t have the chance to take home any other LCDs to see if they had the same low viewing angle properties or uneven backlight that mine did, so I don’t know if this Toshiba is an exception or not. I did end up exchanging it for a plasma, though, because I felt they suit my tastes better (and it turns out that burn-in is not a huge issue anymore), but for those looking for an LCD and looking to spend 00, I would highly suggest taking a look at this one.

Toshiba TLP-MT2U LCD HDTV-Ready Home Theater Projector

Product by Toshiba
Product model TLP-MT2U

I bought a home that had this projector installed and we loved it. Great image – huge size, great resolution, adjustable keystone, ceiling mounted for front screen projection but it does rear screen also.

Then the master bath leaked and now it is not working. This was around the same time that the lamp was dying so I still have hope when the new lamp arrives in the mail (5.00) and we install it, it will work again.

I highly recommend this unit. I recently saw another used one on ebay for a few hundred, but the listing disappeared. If that seller reads this – I am interested.

Unfortunately this price is way too high given this is a used model from 2000-2004.

Toshiba REGZA 37HL67 37-Inch 720p LCD HDTV Review

Bought this a few months ago – tinkered around with all the settings – hooked it up to my PS3(80gb model – the best!!) – used DVD & blu-ray calibration disks to fine-tune and after endless hours of experimentation the results are satisfying – if not spectacular.
1) Connections – has more than what you might normally need, unless you are a hardcore techie setting up a really hifi home-theater setup. Go thru the specs
2) Audio – from a layman’s perspective(& I would consider myself slightly up the curve compared to a layman), audio is excellent. Bass is terrific – (pseudo)surround-sound works like magic with TV programs that broadcast in surround sound – it is not tinny to hear. Supports optical digital out which might be downmixed to dolby pro-logic. That should not matter in case you are feeding audio from your sources to your home-theater receiver. IMP NOTE – if you hook-up your AV source to this TV via HDMI, audio is downmixed to 2-ch LPCM. (Note that LPCM is pure uncompressed, better than compressed formats like dolby digital or DTS, channel for channel – of course, this is 2-ch so again recommendation is to connect your AV source to your home theater receiver).
3) Video – this is spectacular. This TV is billed as a 1080i but make no mistake it accepts full 1080p inputs. The result (my viewing distance is around 8 ft) is indistinguishable from an equivalent 1080p (I spent tons of hours in research and comparison). Colors, detail & sharpness are ourstanding when watching BD movies from my PS3 hooked up via HDMI. Absolutely no complaints.
IMP NOTE – it is essential that you spend time calibrating all the myriad pic options to suit you best. I found that if I started by setting all options “dead center or middle” and then tweaking each one as high as my eye found pleasing, with final fine-tuning touches by using calibration DVDs, results were spectacular. Spend time on these calibrations and your labors will be rewarded.
I DO NOT have HD TV transmission – have regular DirecTV but the results are still VERY GOOD. Yes, there is a slight smudginess etc(will be there when you watch regular transmission on ANY HDTV) but this one likely deals with it in the best possible way. The results are as if you are watching the best quality VHS tape and oh yes – the south asian channels that I get – for some reason look almost HD-like on this TV.
I got it on sale for 839/- and in its size-class this is probably the best one for the price, still!!!! Go TOSHIBA REGZA!!!

  • DynaLight Dynamic Back Light Control
  • ATSC/NTSC & QAM Digital Television Tuners

Toshiba REGZA 37HL67 37-Inch 720p LCD HDTV Overview

As your source for digital home entertainment, Toshiba offers one of the most extensive television lineups in the industry. Whether you’re looking for the latest in HDTV, the flattest FST Pure flat-screen TVs, or the highest quality in portable televisions, Toshiba has what you want.PRODUCT FEATURES:PixelPure 3G 14-bit digital video processing;DynaLight dynamic back light control;CineSpeed;ATSC/NTSC & QAM digital television tuners;SoundStrip speaker system;StableSound;Dolby digital dynamic range control.

Toshiba REGZA 37HL67 37-Inch 720p LCD HDTV Specifications

Toshiba’s Regza line of TVs marry state-of-the-art technology to hip design. One feature that sets them apart is PixelPure 14-bit digital video processing, which creates more than 4,000 levels of color gradations for a smooth, natural-looking picture without posterization or image banding. Another benefit is a fast response time. Response time is the interval an LCD screen takes to from its darkest color to its lightest color and back again, measured in milliseconds (ms). This screen’s response time is 8 ms, which is at the faster and better end of the spectrum. This screen is likely to display cleaner, sharper images during high-action scenes and with fewer image artifacts than other screens in its class. This technology is housed in a black gloss cabinetry that is sure to fit well with most any decor.

The 37HL67 has a panel resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. This qualifies it as 720 progressive-line HDTV, which is a noticeably better picture than standard definition sets, but not as detailed as the 1080 HD sets available. Its 16:9 wide screen aspect ratio delivers most movies the way they were meant to be seen in the theater, without back bars wasting the top and bottom of the screen.

The Value of LCD TVs
Aside from their obvious aesthetic value, LCD TVs are much more practical in the home than CRT (tube-style) televisions. They take up a smaller footprint, and thus use up less floor space in the room. Also, LCD TVs are lighter and easier to move around when cleaning or redecorating. The 37HL67 is only 4.65 inches deep and weighs less than 35 pounds. Best of all, LCD screens use less power than CRTs and plasma screens.

Connections
The set has a built-in digital television tuner, so out of the box it can receive digital broadcast ATSC signals and QAM signals used by most digital cable providers. It also has a built-in 181-channel NTSC tuner, so it can also accept traditional analog signals. It can also make these connections to your audio and video components:

  • HDMI inputs: 3
  • ColorStream HD component video inputs: 2
  • PC monitor input: 1 VGA 15 Pin D-sub
  • S-video input: 1
  • A/V inputs: 2

Audio
The unit’s SoundStrip speaker system hides the unit’s speakers in a thin strip bordering the screen. They’re powerful enough to deliver big stereo sound, but they don’t add significantly to the size of the set. Toshiba’s StableSound feature maintains television volume within a preset range regardless of the source signal. This is an extremely useful feature when transitioning between a quiet television program and a very loud commercial advertisement or when changing channels. SRS WOW, a combination of SRS 3D, TruBass, and Focus sound-expanding systems, create a 3-D sound field with improved bass response over standard TV audio and create directed, three-dimensional audio sweet spot for maximum enjoyment. The TV also has optical digital output for connecting to your audio system.

37-inch wide screen
A general rule of thumb for selecting the right size television screen is that the screen width–not its 37-inch diagonal measurement–should be between three and five times the optimum viewing distance, such as the distance from the TV screen to where your eyes are while sitting on the couch. Less than that and you may be distracted by the scan lines of the picture. More than that, and you may lose the detail of your TV. Based on this guide, the 37HL67 is ideal for viewing distances of 8 to 14 feet.

What’s in the Box
37HL67, stand, 4-item universal remote, stand, warranty and product manuals.

Toshiba 19HLV87 19-Inch LCD HDTV with DVD Player Review

I bought this for the bedroom. I dont know why others are having problems with the built in DVD player, because mine works perfect and I’ve had no other mechanical problems. The TV is light-weight and does not take up a lot of space on the dresser which is why I bought it. I can easily move it aside when dusting the dresser. It’s very good at picking up digital channels even with a regular antenna. I can only give it 4 stars for picture quality. When watching local channels you have to sit in front of the TV and look at the screen straight on. Otherwise,if you look at the screen from an angle, the colors & contrast seem faded. It is not the TV’s fault, but the type of screen cover the manufacturer has put on the TV. However, when watching DVDs, the colors & picture clarity are AWESOME from any angle. I now enjoy watching DVD movies in bed. In summary, it serves it’s purpose for watching TV in bed before I fall asleep and not taking up much room on the dresser. I would recommend it for the bedroom, the kitchen, or where space is limited. I would not recommend this for the living room.

Toshiba REGZA 46RV530U 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV Review

Received the TV a few weeks ago. Amazon delivery was fabulous. They unpacked and set up, even helped take the old stand into another room for me.

Picture is great, easy to understand remote. I set up my Bose Wave radio for speakers and it is a few tads below surround sound. The sound quality of the TV is average to above average. However, since I had the radio I figured I would give it a whirl. I did upgrade to a Monster Cable. I am not really sure it was worth the extra cost. I am electronically challenged and hate change and I do not have any problems understanding this set.

I researched the internet for hours doing price comparisons, quality, warranty, etc and found this brand, model and size were the best value for my family and myself. If you are on the fence between two TV’s, buy this one!

Toshiba REGZA 42HL167 42-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV Review

I bought this television 4 months ago at circuit city as an open box item for 0. It was an amazing deal, though I cracked the thing last night moving it through the house. Even though I had a three year warranty on it, CC won’t cover the crack. It was great while it lasted… Very sharp picture with the ps3 hooked up and incredible color and brightness. I’m going to miss it a lot. Definitely recommend it, but always shop around for the best deal. Do your research and you might just find as good a deal as I did! And make for damn sure that your warranty covers accidental damage!

The 42HL167 has a panel resolution of 1920x 1080 pixels. This qualifies it as a 1080 progressive-line (1080p) HDTV, which is a the highest-quality picture available. The “p” stands for “progressive.” 1080p is better in quality compared to 1080i. Further, the 16:9 wide screen aspect ratio on this set delivers most movies the way they were meant to be seen in the theater, without back bars wasting the top and bottom of the screen.

Toshiba 23HLV87 23-Inch LCD HDTV with DVD Player Review

After about four months of use, I like this TV/DVD player and it fits my needs well with the built-in functionality. This is a very flexible device and I use it in my home office (which is also a bedroom), which is my only work location. For a majority of a work day it is used as a 2nd computer monitor, which comes in very handy with the multiple windows I tend to need open. The size of the monitor at 23″ eases the stain. After work I use it as a TV or DVD player and find viewing is good from approx. 10 feet or so. My daughter sometimes guests out on weekends and gets a lot of use out of it. I would give it five stars but the remote is sometimes recalcitrant in activating channels or volume changes, detracting from a seamless operation.

Now you can play your entertainment library on one versatile machine. Since the 23HLV87 has both a DVD player and a 23-inch screen, you won’t have to worry about connecting different electronic components in order to watch your favorite program. This convenience is matched only by its smart, stylish design.

This screen also has a pixel resolution of 1440 x 900 — which qualifies it to display 720p HDTV images. A built-in comb filter reduces digital artifacts produced by signal noise, making for more detailed images.

Full-Featured DVD Player
The 23HLV87 includes an integrated DVD player compatible with several disc formats: DVD Video, CD-R, CD-RW, VCD and DVD-R. This player is also DivX home theater certified, which means it display popular Internet video formats, such as DivX, AVI, and MPEG4. Similarly, MP3 and WMA-encoded music files recorded to disc will play nicely.

An interesting feature of this player is Digital Picture Zoom, which allows you to select and magnify an area of either freeze-frame or motion video.

Connections
The set has a built-in digital television tuner, so out of the box it can receive digital broadcast ATSC signals and QAM signals used by most digital cable providers. It also has a built-in 181-channel NTSC tuner, so it can also accept traditional analog signals. It is also capable of the following connections:

  • HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface): 1
  • ColorStream HD component video inputs: 1
  • S-video: 1
  • RF: 1
  • PC input: D-sub 15 with L/R audio
  • Digital audio out: 1 optical
  • Headphone jack: 1
  • RCA video inputs: 2 rear

Audio
The 23HLV87′s bottom-mount speakers deliver stereo sound, but for those with a 5.1 surround sound system, the 23HLV87 outputs Dolby Digital and dts digital audio from the DVD player through an optical port. A front headphone jack allows you to watch TV without disturbing those around you–perfect for late-night viewing. Toshiba’s StableSound feature maintains television volume within a preset range regardless of the source signal. This is an extremely useful feature when transitioning between a quiet television program and a very loud commercial advertisement or when changing channels.
